Throughout 2019 and 2020 we will research, develop, rehearse and tour a brand new immersive production for Young People. Youthquake will be another exciting 360° theatre experience from Zest, featuring an exciting mix of professional actors and local young people who will delve into the lives and minds of British Teenagers. Following an R&D process in Spring / Summer 2019, Youthquake will tour nationally from Autumn 2019.

Through an exciting co-commission from Tees Valley Combined Authority, 50% of this project will take place in communities across Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Stockton, Redcar and Cleveland. Zest is therefore seeking an R&D Assistant Director based in Tees Valley, with a specialism in Movement, Physical Theatre and / or Choreography, to join the creative team.

The R&D Assistant Director (Movement) will join the creative team as we develop our latest production. You’ll support the Artistic Director over the course of 24 days as we engage young people across Tees Valley to develop the ‘physical language’ of Youthquake. You’ll be central to the process as we facilitate workshops in a range of community settings to help create content for the touring production. This is an exciting opportunity for a theatre practitioner based in Tees Valley to develop their practice with a nationally recognised theatre company, leaving a legacy for the arts and culture sector in the region beyond the end of this project.

The ideal candidate should:

o  Be based in the Tees Valley.

o  Be educated to degree level in a performing arts related subject and / or professional experience of directing / theatre making.

o   Relish the opportunity to work in a small, yet mighty team of creatives who are excited about advocating for a diverse range of young voices.

o   Hold a full clean driving license and have access to a car.
