Announcing Refresh Lincoln
Refresh Lincoln
A city-wide installation sharing the words of Lincoln’s children and young people
10th July to 4th September 2021
Zest is taking over Lincoln! For 8 weeks this summer, Zest will unleash 80 vibrant artworks on posters, banners, and billboards around every corner of the City Centre. Today we’re announcing the full details!
Refresh Lincoln is set to reclaim the city centre for young people, placing their voices at the heart of Lincoln’s re-opening and recovery following a year of being in and out of lockdown.
Earlier this year, Zest Theatre led 34 workshops with over 800 young people aged 9 – 21 across Lincoln. Zest created a space for young people to reflect on the last year, cultivating over 600 quotes about any and everything – from daily life to the big questions of the universe
Refresh Lincoln will share 80 of these incredible quotes – the questions, advice, and hopes of Lincoln’s children and young people, amplifying the voice of a generation and bringing colour and conversation to the place they call home!
Artwork will be located in iconic areas of Lincoln, including the Bailgate, Steep Hill, Brayford Waterfront, Cornhill Quarter, St Marks Shopping Centre, and Lincoln Castle.
Producer Catherine Fowles says: “Refresh Lincoln has been an incredible opportunity to push our creative boundaries, bring Zest’s work back home to Lincoln, and engage young people in the delivery of new work – not just as participants, but as budding professionals – allowing them to grow in their individual practice and explore the opportunities they might create for Lincoln in future. Their input and wisdom is clear, and we can’t wait to share it with the city this summer.”
Artistic Director Toby Ealden comments: “The last 12 months have taken their toll on Young People. They are facing a mental health crisis and we knew that Zest needed to respond. We also feel the responsibility to provide some solutions by investing into our local community and enriching the lives of children and young people across the city following a time of crisis. We believe Refresh Lincoln will be just what we all need at the end of a long year of restrictions and uncertainty – creating a city centre that is full of colour and hope.”
